Senior Engineer, Distribution Capacity Planning

  • Develop distribution infrastructure solutions for customer growth and long-range capacity needs
  • Analyze feeder and substation capacity
  • Assess large customer load additions and recommend solutions that protect the grid
  • Create Grid Plan scopes for capacity upgrades, self-optimizing grids, fuse and hydraulic recloser replacements, and other system improvements
  • Prepare retail and system capacity project proposals and recommend infrastructure investments
  • Review fuse coordination and recommend equipment sizing
  • Contribute to load forecasts, long-range plans, and project prioritization
  • Coordinate with DPAC, Grid Management, Operations, and other stakeholders
  • Help plan temporary switching to limit outages and reduce dependence on portable transformers
  • Keep records and files accurate
  • Advance company goals and represent the company professionally
  • Coach and mentor engineers and engineering professionals without degrees
  • Make routine field visits for detailed studies and troubleshooting

Талаптар

  • Hold a BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or hold a PE license for the Senior Engineer level
  • Have at least 4 years of engineering experience for Engineer III
  • Have at least 6 years of engineering experience for Senior Engineer, or 5 years with state PE registration
  • A master's degree in Engineering may be accepted instead of a BS in Engineering
  • Know engineering theories and principles
  • Be able to research engineering and design issues, assess alternatives, recommend solutions, and present recommendations
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Know project management principles
  • A Professional Engineer license is preferred
  • Utility industry experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with CYME or a comparable distribution system analysis tool is preferred
  • Knowledge of distribution engineering, planning principles, load forecasting, and capacity planning methods is preferred
  • Experience developing capital project scopes and business justifications is preferred
  • Live within a reasonable commute of no more than 50 miles one way to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Meet all basic and required qualifications
