Senior Backend Software Engineer, Card Loan Platform — United States Remote
Build Affirm’s high-throughput card loan decision platform as a senior backend engineer. Design scalable services, APIs, and data systems for real-time approvals, loan origination, and refunds.

- Shape technical direction through project planning, prioritization, and delivery leadership
- Design and develop large-scale, highly available systems from end to end
- Create resilient APIs and data models for microservice and event-driven architectures
- Partner with Product, Analytics, Design, Legal, and Accounting on card loan attribution and lifecycle strategy
- Investigate and resolve complex technical problems
- Improve existing code and deliver reliable, scalable solutions
- Support junior engineers through mentorship, lead technical discussions and design reviews, and promote engineering best practices in code reviews

- At least five years of software development or engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of system design and software architecture
- Leadership skills that help teams grow and encourage continuous learning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or a comparable modern programming language
- Professional experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with web frameworks and REST API development
- Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field
