Description

  • Set the AI Safety technical strategy, define research priorities, and develop risk-mitigation technologies
  • Build and lead a high-performing R&D team through recruitment, mentoring, and technical-culture development
  • Direct complex machine learning programmes and support publication in leading venues
  • Develop AI safety offerings for frontier laboratories and security institutes
  • Oversee delivery of AI safety and security projects, evaluations, and red-team exercises
  • Represent Faculty through technical thought leadership and major international industry events
  • Work with business unit leaders and commercial teams on research investment and client requirements

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success designing and leading high-performing technical teams
  • Experience managing R&D budgets and mentoring senior technical professionals
  • Deep AI safety research expertise spanning alignment, interpretability, and LLM or safety-critical-system robustness
  • Strong scientific record, including influential machine learning publications
  • Thorough knowledge of transformer architectures
  • Ability to establish research priorities that support long-term organisational objectives
  • Skill in explaining complex technical ideas to C-suite leaders and research audiences
  • Strong commercial judgement and stakeholder-management capability
