Structural Mechanics Project Engineer — Hybrid, El Segundo

The Aerospace Corporation seeks a structural mechanics project engineer to develop integrated solutions for national space programs. This role leads cross-functional work spanning vehicle engineering, acquisition, and hardware operations.

Description

  • Link emerging issues and programs to subdivision capabilities while coordinating joint decisions and advancing strategic technical priorities across functional, security, and subject-matter boundaries.
  • Lead ad hoc cross-disciplinary teams in resolving gaps across processes, products, and data flows.
  • Track capabilities across functional departments and identify opportunities to apply and expand them.
  • Build and manage relationships with customers and contractors while coordinating subdivision interests throughout program acquisition and advocating for appropriate involvement.
  • Maintain technical expertise in structural mechanics focus areas and apply relevant capabilities when needed.
  • Assess technical needs and solutions during hardware development and operations, including root-cause analysis of anomalies.
  • Help maintain requirements, technical support data, and rationale for SSC-S-016.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in structural mechanics or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least eight years of experience across multiple aerospace structural mechanics disciplines.
  • Familiarity with space and/or launch vehicle contractors.
  • Demonstrated success delivering meaningful outcomes for national security space programs.
  • Ability to travel domestically occasionally, approximately 10%, to support customer needs as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
