Distributed Systems

Description

  • Own technical design and architecture for commerce platform capabilities, including product catalog, promotions, subscriptions, and entitlements
  • Maintain reliable, performant platform services that support business and customer needs
  • Shape the technical roadmap with product managers and partner engineering teams while driving platform adoption
  • Deliver complex initiatives end to end, from requirements and technical scoping through rollout and post-launch improvements
  • Develop engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and practical technical mentorship
  • Use AI tools to improve engineering speed and establish AI-assisted development practices across the team
  • Work with marketing and business partners to improve self-service management of products, bundles, promotions, and discounts
  • Help new offerings reach customers more quickly

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience
  • Extensive experience building and operating large-scale backend platforms, preferably in commerce, billing, subscriptions, pricing, or packaging
  • Track record of owning multi-quarter initiatives that address complex engineering challenges and deliver measurable customer impact at scale
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, API design, and service reliability
  • Experience establishing and achieving production service-level objectives
  • Ability to lead technical programs across engineering, product, and business teams and align stakeholders around a common vision
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers
  • Experience leading large-scale refactoring, performance and reliability improvements, and ownership of a product area
  • Active use of relevant AI tools and willingness to continue developing AI fluency
  • Willingness to travel to Gusto’s office for required onboarding
