Software Engineer II, React and JavaScript - Hybrid in Santa Monica

Build React and JavaScript applications for TrueCar’s digital automotive marketplace as a Software Engineer II. Create tested, reusable web components for consumer and dealer experiences.

Description

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions with front-end JavaScript frameworks such as React
  • Build universal or isomorphic single-page applications for consumer and dealer websites
  • Perform unit, integration, and system testing with tools such as Cypress, Mocha, and Jest
  • Create reusable components shared across web applications
  • Assess end-user needs and deliver software solutions that address them
  • Collaborate with engineers, developers, analysts, and stakeholders throughout development
  • Diagnose software defects and issues, then deliver timely fixes
  • Create and maintain documentation covering development, processes, code, and deployment
  • Keep current with industry trends, technologies, and software engineering best practices
  • Report to the Senior Director of Software Engineering
  • Partner with product managers, front-end and back-end engineers, and designers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing web software or mobile applications
  • Professional or open-source experience writing JavaScript
  • Experience with a JavaScript MVC framework in a single-page architecture, particularly React and Redux; AngularJS, Backbone.js, Knockout, or Ember.js are also relevant
  • Understanding of standard JavaScript asynchronous patterns, including closures, callbacks, promises, and error handling
  • Experience with modern version control systems such as Git or Mercurial
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and their practical application
  • Solid knowledge of modern HTML and CSS
  • Ability to deliver technology quickly in a fast-changing environment
  • Self-directed approach, independent judgment, ownership of problems, and motivation to learn and grow
  • Ability to lead productive discussions about complex issues and persuade others on technical trade-offs
  • Ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to resolve problems and make decisions
  • Experience coordinating team initiatives and meetings, including multi-person, multi-week projects
  • Familiarity with Babel or TypeScript and ES6/2015+ features
  • Experience with Node.js
  • Experience using Ruby on Rails
  • Experience deploying applications to AWS
  • Strong familiarity with Agile practices such as continuous integration and deployment
  • Experience in the automotive industry
