Software Engineer I, Ground Software - Sierra Space - Centennial Onsite

Build and test ground software supporting Sierra Space satellites, spacecraft, and mission systems. Work with experienced engineers on secure space and defense technologies.

Description

  • Create, develop, and test software applications for space systems and related technologies
  • Produce clean, maintainable code that follows established engineering practices and coding standards
  • Work with senior engineers to interpret requirements and deliver assigned development tasks
  • Manage source-code changes with Git and other version control tools
  • Join code reviews to evaluate quality and adherence to development standards
  • Investigate, diagnose, and fix software problems
  • Maintain documentation for software designs, configurations, workflows, and procedures
  • Keep informed about advances in software engineering and space technology

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience in place of a degree
  • Generally, 0–2 years of professional experience
  • Foundational knowledge of at least one programming language and core software development practices
  • Capability to produce clear, maintainable code
  • Working familiarity with Git or a comparable version control system
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a team
  • Eligible to obtain and retain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Preferred: Frontend development experience with React, TypeScript, Node.js, FastAPI, or a similar technology
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Windows and Linux/Unix development environments
  • Preferred: Knowledge of fundamental networking concepts, including TCP/IP, sockets, and client-server architectures
  • Preferred: Exposure to CI/CD workflows or automated testing frameworks
  • Preferred: Exposure to command-and-control, telemetry, or mission-operations software concepts
  • Preferred: Basic knowledge of spacecraft, satellite, or ground-system operations
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Agile methods such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Preferred: Strong analytical problem-solving ability and attention to detail
  • Preferred: Excellent communication skills and effectiveness in a fast-paced team setting
