Senior User Terminal Systems Engineering Specialist – Telesat, Ottawa Hybrid

Lead systems engineering for Telesat Lightspeed user terminals by defining requirements, architectures, and verification strategies. Coordinate satellite communications product development with engineering teams, suppliers, and program stakeholders.

Description

  • Own and maintain User Terminal requirements, product requirements documents, interfaces, and related systems documentation
  • Update, decompose, allocate, trace, and assess compliance for requirements spanning terminal hardware, modems, software, and integrated solutions
  • Create requirements-to-test mappings, verification approaches, compliance matrices, and links to objective evidence
  • Develop CONOPS and requirements for fixed, mobility, and maritime user-terminal applications
  • Contribute to requirements and design reviews, architecture forums, technical workshops, and supplier meetings
  • Coordinate activities across RF, antenna, modem, waveform, FPGA, software, networking, integration, test, product, and program disciplines
  • Help terminal vendors and partners review requirements, interfaces, designs, risks, and verification evidence
  • Support contractual requirements reviews, bids, proposals, CDRLs, test reports, and customer-facing deliverables
  • Maintain operational and functional architecture models in Capella
  • Provide technical guidance on requirements quality, traceability, verification, compliance, and issue resolution
  • Escalate decisions carrying material architectural, contractual, cost, or schedule consequences
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and program stakeholders to keep requirements complete, testable, traceable, and aligned with customer and product goals
  • Travel occasionally within Canada and internationally for workshops, reviews, integration, demonstrations, and customer or supplier engagements

Requirements

  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Eligible to obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Reliability status
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, systems, aerospace engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Nine to fourteen years of relevant engineering experience in systems engineering, satellite communications, telecommunications, aerospace, networking, or a related field
  • Background supporting complex, multidisciplinary product development across requirements, design, integration, verification, and delivery
  • Advanced knowledge of systems engineering, requirements allocation, traceability, verification, and compliance management
  • Knowledge of LEO satellite communications and user-terminal subsystems, including antennas, RF equipment, modems, waveform processing, networking, and software
  • Ability to translate customer, contractual, operational, and technical needs into clear, testable requirements
  • Experience with Jama, DOORS, Capella, Jira, Confluence, or comparable tools
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, presentation, and meeting-facilitation abilities
  • Capacity to work independently on complex assignments with limited supervision
  • Able to lead focused work packages or reviews and support the development of less experienced engineers
