Senior Technical Project Manager, GIS — Kenya Remote
Lead GIS and geospatial delivery for VIDA’s infrastructure-planning platform, working with governments and development partners across energy, climate, health, and infrastructure. Manage multi-sector projects and partner relationships across Africa and other emerging markets.
Description
- Manage geospatial client projects from scoping through on-time, on-budget delivery
- Serve as the primary contact for governments, donors, and development partners, mainly in Africa
- Facilitate workshops and travel occasionally to project countries
- Convert partner needs into project workplans and technical specifications
- Direct Data Science workstreams covering data collection, validation, and quality assurance
- Verify that deliverables satisfy client requirements and support end-user needs
- Communicate project progress through clear reports and presentations
- Develop project scopes and proposals with the business team
- Lead infrastructure-planning initiatives across energy, climate, health, and infrastructure in more than 40 countries
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in geospatial science, data science, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline
- At least five years of experience delivering technical projects for governments and donors
- Experience managing client relationships
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects involving multiple partners
- Strong practical GIS expertise using QGIS and/or ArcGIS
- Working knowledge of Python, R, or SQL
- Working knowledge of cloud-based workflows, including GCP and BigQuery
- An AI-first mindset
- Entrepreneurial attitude with a willingness to create new processes
- Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Professional fluency in English
- Professional working proficiency in French at C1 level is advantageous but not required
- Ability to work remotely from Europe or Africa, or from the Munich or Nairobi office
- Availability for occasional travel to project countries
