Senior Structural Engineer – Vancouver, Canada (Onsite)

Qualus is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to design power infrastructure, including substations, transmission structures, and GIS facilities. The role covers structural analysis, technical documentation, client coordination, project oversight, and engineering team mentorship.

Description

  • Support structural design, technical assistance, and quality reviews for substations, transmission towers and poles, control rooms, and indoor GIS switchgear buildings.
  • Conduct structural analysis and modeling with SAP2000, LPILE, SAFE, and MathCAD.
  • Develop and review design bases, engineering reports, drawings, construction specifications, field review plans, and field review reports.
  • Evaluate vendor documentation for compliance with project specifications.
  • Address construction-site inquiries and finalize as-builts, calculations, and other project records for clients.
  • Manage resource planning, scope, schedules, and budgets for structural engineering project teams.
  • Build professional relationships with external partners, present project information, and answer client questions.
  • Lead or support client meetings and job-site visits.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated projects.

Requirements

  • A structural engineering degree from a recognized university.
  • A Canadian Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) or eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC.
  • At least 8–10 years of structural engineering design experience.
  • Experience designing utility substations; BC Hydro project experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian codes and standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, CSA standards, and North American transmission structure design standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
