Senior SQL Server DBA – AWS Storage (Hybrid)

Description
- Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server instances across production and non-production environments
- Design and implement backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies
- Manage and optimize AWS storage services for databases and related workloads
- Plan and execute migrations from on-premises databases to AWS
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and tune queries, indexes, and execution plans
- Implement security policies, encryption for data at rest and in transit, and access controls
- Automate administrative and maintenance tasks using scripts and/or infrastructure-as-code tools
- Manage storage capacity, forecast growth, and optimize AWS resource costs
- Document database architectures, operating procedures, and administration policies
- Work with infrastructure, development, and security teams to protect data integrity, availability, and confidentiality
- Provide proactive and reactive incident support, including out-of-hours on-call coverage when required
Requirements
- At least 8 years of DBA experience, focused on Microsoft SQL Server
- At least 2 years of experience with AWS storage services such as EBS, S3, EFS, or FSx
- Demonstrated experience migrating databases to the cloud is preferred
- Experience supporting high-availability and mission-critical environments
- Advanced SQL Server administration skills, including installation, configuration, security, backup and restore, and performance tuning
- Advanced T-SQL knowledge covering stored procedures, functions, triggers, and query optimization
- Hands-on knowledge of AWS storage services including EBS, S3, EFS, and FSx; RDS and EC2 knowledge is preferred
- Understanding of cloud networking and security concepts, including VPC, IAM, KMS, and Security Groups
- Scripting experience with PowerShell and/or Bash
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SQL Server Management Studio and CloudWatch
- AWS certifications, such as Solutions Architect or Database Specialty, and/or Microsoft SQL Server certifications are preferred
- Ability to analyze and resolve problems under pressure
- Proactive approach and strong attention to detail
- Strong communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to continuous improvement and cost and resource optimization
