Senior Specialist Software Engineer - L3Harris, Palm Bay, FL

Develop and test mission-critical space systems software for L3Harris in an onsite Palm Bay role. Work across hardware integration, verification, and operational readiness on Windows and Linux.

Description

  • Contribute across the software development lifecycle by building solutions that integrate and test complex customer-deliverable hardware
  • Partner with engineering teams to interpret mission needs and establish, document, and improve software requirements and designs
  • Develop, review, integrate, and validate software in C++, C, XML, and Python for Windows and Linux environments
  • Assist with hardware integration and testing through troubleshooting, defect correction, performance tuning, and technical analysis
  • Follow established software engineering practices and DevOps workflows
  • Use automation, reusable solutions, and emerging AI-assisted development tools to strengthen productivity, quality, and software maintainability

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related discipline plus at least 6 years of relevant experience
  • Graduate degree plus at least 4 years of related experience
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree
  • At least 1 year of programming experience with C++, Python, or a comparable language
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a security clearance
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket, or comparable configuration management and defect-tracking platforms
  • Working knowledge of Agile delivery, including Scrum practices, facilitation, and backlog management
  • Experience with DevOps virtualization and automation tools including Docker, Jenkins, CMake, git or Bitbucket, and Artifactory
  • Experience designing object-oriented software architectures
  • Experience with AI-assisted or agentic development tools such as GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or Claude Code
  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, or comparable database technologies
  • Experience developing or integrating drivers and hardware interfaces such as PCIe, 1553, RS232, FPGAs, and other specialized hardware
  • Knowledge of UML class, component, state, and sequence diagrams
  • Experience with space-hardware testing methods and operations
  • Familiarity with the complete software development lifecycle
  • Experience in software integration and testing, supported by strong development and troubleshooting capabilities
