Description

Design and deliver substantial API Platform features and services
Help shape architecture while weighing near-term delivery against long-term technical quality
Apply and improve engineering standards and development best practices
Surface risks, defects, technical debt, and opportunities to improve system performance
Produce clean, thoroughly tested, maintainable code
Review code for correctness, efficiency, and clarity
Take part in on-call coverage and investigate production incidents
Support junior engineers through reviews, pairing, and technical coaching
Document team knowledge and help onboard new engineers
Contribute to technical interviews and hiring decisions
Work with CVS Health engineers to understand requirements and connect systems to the API Platform
Report progress, impediments, and important technical decisions
Create and maintain accurate technical documentation
Contribute to engineering discussions and shared team decisions
Track relevant developments across the software industry
Build proofs of concept to assess new technologies and approaches
Assess tools and techniques for their practical value on the platform

Requirements

At least five years of professional web development experience
Strong working knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript
Experience with modern frontend frameworks, preferably React and Next.js
Professional experience with Java and Spring Boot
Track record of taking features or components from design through production
Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to colleagues and partner teams
Experience mentoring engineers or helping advance their skills
Background supporting production systems with substantial scale and reliability requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
High school diploma with four years of relevant experience may satisfy the educational requirement
Preferred: at least two years of API development experience
Experience with frontend architecture and design systems
Experience creating developer tools, libraries, or platforms
Knowledge of current web performance optimization methods
Experience with Node.js and server-side JavaScript
Understanding of API design principles and GraphQL
Experience with DevOps tools, practices, and culture
Experience advancing inclusive engineering practices
