Senior Robotics Software Engineer – Vision and Automation (Austin, Hybrid)

Develop robotics software for General Motors manufacturing using computer vision, machine learning, and automation. Build scalable applications and help expand robotics engineering practices across GM Manufacturing IT.

Description

  • Establish and implement robotics capabilities for GM Manufacturing IT
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering SMEs to improve and streamline robotics engineering processes
  • Create machine learning and deep learning solutions for real-world operating environments
  • Build computer vision solutions for real-world applications
  • Turn research outputs into deployed technical solutions
  • Apply simulation and data visualization to guide solution development
  • Design scalable systems with low operational overhead
  • Evaluate end-to-end systems and interfaces to ensure solutions meet operational constraints
  • Promote adoption of robotics software engineering practices across the Manufacturing IT organization
  • Identify, assess, and implement rapid, iterative robotics software solutions
  • Work with Junior and Staff Robotics Software Engineers and Manufacturing Engineering partners
  • Travel to GM plants and facilities when required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • At least five years of professional robotics software development experience
  • Proficiency in Python and Java
  • Practical knowledge of ROS and MoveIt
  • Understanding of linear algebra, computer vision, and software development
  • Ability to travel to GM plants and facilities across the United States
  • North American travel of approximately 20%–25%, including the U.S. and Mexico
  • Candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Master’s degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering preferred
  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, data mining, visualization, and simulation preferred
  • Experience with cloud technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and HPC platforms preferred
  • Linux and Bash scripting experience preferred
  • Experience with C++, C, C#, Go, SQL, and OpenGL preferred
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras preferred
  • Real-time systems experience preferred
