Senior Revenue Accountant - Ohio Remote

Senior Revenue Accountant responsible for depository revenue, inventory reconciliations, and US GAAP reporting. The role supports Cengage’s digital education products through SAP, RAR, and accounting process automation.

Description

  • Report depository sales and returns accurately in accordance with US GAAP and ASC 606
  • Prepare, calculate, and record complex commission and revenue journal entries
  • Manage the complete depository revenue cycle across SAP, RAR, and depository statements
  • Investigate and resolve exceptions, discrepancies, and reconciliation issues
  • Direct month-end close work, including accruals, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting schedules
  • Complete and enhance perpetual inventory reconciliations for depository locations
  • Coordinate with SAP support, Operations, and Revenue Accounting teams on system problems and cross-functional matters
  • Create and maintain reporting models with Excel, Power Query, and standardized templates
  • Drive accounting process improvements and automation efforts
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Develop analytical models to track trends and assess exceptions
  • Offer informal mentorship and practical guidance to junior colleagues

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least five years of experience in revenue, inventory, or reconciliation-focused accounting
  • Familiarity with US GAAP revenue recognition, including ASC 606
  • Advanced Excel proficiency with PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and complex formula design
  • Experience with Power Query is preferred
  • Strong practical knowledge of ERP platforms, ideally SAP S/4HANA
  • Understanding of end-to-end transaction flows, data dependencies, and reconciliation across systems
  • Experience using accounting and reconciliation software
  • Strong analytical judgment and problem-solving ability
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote setting
