Senior Product Architect (Hybrid, Ashburn, VA)

Lead hands-on development of React, Java, and AWS systems supporting a mission-critical federal government program. Guide technical delivery, full-stack engineering, and Agile collaboration.

Description

  • Create, deliver, and support full-stack features across the product.
  • Build front-end experiences with React and TypeScript.
  • Develop Java and Spring Boot services with PostgreSQL data models.
  • Take part in sprint planning, story refinement, demos, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies.
  • Produce secure, maintainable, well-tested, and readable code.
  • Conduct code reviews and promote consistent engineering quality across the team.
  • Work with SecDevOps to build, onboard, and operate applications in AWS.
  • Turn business needs into clearly defined, actionable team tasks.
  • Lead technically, review pull requests, resolve impediments, and support developing engineers through mentorship.
  • Maintain technical documentation, design records, and architecture diagrams.
  • Identify technical risks, quality issues, and architectural decisions requiring attention.
  • Partner with developers, program managers, testers, UI/UX specialists, and production support engineers.
  • Present team progress and delivered work during stakeholder demonstrations and updates.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies and industry developments.

Requirements

  • Reside within the Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia area.
  • Hold U.S. citizenship.
  • Maintain an active CBP Public Trust clearance.
  • Bring at least seven years of software development experience, including hands-on full-stack work and technical or project leadership experience—or readiness to take on that scope.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrate production experience with Java, Spring or Spring Boot, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and PostgreSQL.
  • Be proficient in HTML, HTTP, CSS, and a JavaScript framework such as Kendo UI.
  • Understand design patterns, object-oriented programming, and sound software design practices.
  • Have designed, implemented, and integrated secure RESTful APIs.
  • Understand relational databases, data modeling, and sound data-storage practices.
  • Have experience with AWS or comparable cloud platforms and distributed-system principles such as scalability and fault tolerance.
  • Understand client-server, microservices, event-driven, and layered architectures, including their trade-offs.
  • Have experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as Harness, Jenkins, or GitLab.
  • Have experience using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understand common software security vulnerabilities and mitigation approaches.
  • Have professional experience working in cross-functional Agile or Scrum teams.
  • Be able to work hybrid, including one to two days per week on site in Ashburn, Virginia.
  • Preferred: experience with TypeScript at scale, Postgres Streams, WebRTC, geospatial software, or generative AI integration.
  • Preferred: experience modernizing legacy applications into cloud-based microservices architectures.
  • Preferred: technical lead experience or interest in expanding into that responsibility.
  • Preferred: experience contributing to enterprise architecture standards.
  • Preferred: skills in software performance analysis and optimization.
  • Preferred: familiarity with baseline management and version-control or merge practices.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification is advantageous.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
