Senior PHP Engineer – Pakistan Remote

Description
- Own and enhance PHP backend services that process GPS and telematics data, safety-device events, and DVR video
- Develop and maintain APIs supporting web, mobile, and external integration partners
- Lead the migration from Yii2 to Laravel
- Lead the migration from MariaDB to PostgreSQL
- Help break down the existing monolith into microservices
- Assume responsibility for systems inherited from a departing contractor, working effectively with limited documentation
- Provide backend support for AI products in partnership with the computer vision developer
- Take full ownership of production systems from development through operation
- Work autonomously as part of a small senior engineering team
- Make sound architectural decisions for microservices and database migrations while protecting data integrity
- Use Bitbucket Pipelines and PHPUnit in the engineering workflow
- Make production engineering decisions for systems serving local authorities
- Coordinate with the developer responsible for computer vision initiatives
Requirements
- At least 8 years of expert-level commercial PHP backend development experience
- At least 5 years working with large-scale SaaS products or complex production environments at an expert level
- At least 3 years of advanced PostgreSQL experience
- At least 5 years designing APIs and integrating third-party services at an advanced level
- At least 3 years handling high-volume data, including event-driven systems and ingestion pipelines, at an advanced level
- At least 3 years of advanced Laravel and/or Yii2 experience
- At least 3 years of advanced PHPUnit experience; Pest or Codeception can be alternatives
- At least 2 years of intermediate-level experience with microservices or monolith decomposition
- At least 2 years of intermediate AWS experience; Azure or GCP can be alternatives
- Experience with telematics, fleet, or logistics systems; IoT, GPS/location, or connected-device experience is also relevant
- Experience handling video, CCTV, or large media files, including storage, retrieval, and retention at scale
- Demonstrated ability to own mature production systems end to end and operate independently with limited guidance
- Substantial experience working with complex systems is essential
- Experience operating MariaDB or MySQL at scale
- Frontend development experience is beneficial but not required
- Familiarity with CI/CD through Bitbucket Pipelines or comparable tools
- Familiarity with AI or computer vision is beneficial
- Availability to start in November 2026
