Senior Motion Designer - Vancouver Hybrid

Thinkingbox is seeking a Senior Motion Designer for its Vancouver-based motion design and post-production studio, The Heist. The role focuses on developing 2D and 3D motion graphics, from styleframes and animation through polished campaign delivery.

Description

  • Create and animate 2D and 3D motion graphics across varied visual styles and platforms
  • Build storyboards, styleframes, and motion studies that advance the creative direction
  • Work closely with Art Directors, Creative Directors, Producers, and other designers throughout production
  • Lead complex assignments while independently addressing creative and technical problems
  • Uphold strong standards of craft, consistency, and finish across all deliverables
  • Offer constructive feedback and mentor junior designers to strengthen the team’s work
  • Track emerging tools, workflows, and technologies that enhance creative production and efficiency
  • Estimate workloads accurately, report progress clearly, and support on-time project delivery
  • Collaborate with Art Directors and Creative Directors to turn concepts into outstanding motion work
  • Help steer projects through production with confidence, precision, and close attention to detail

Requirements

  • At least five years of professional experience in motion design, animation, or a related creative discipline
  • A portfolio showing excellent design judgment, animation fundamentals, and range across visual styles
  • Advanced skills in After Effects, Cinema 4D, Redshift, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong command of typography, composition, color, pacing, and visual storytelling
  • Experience contributing to professional production pipelines from initial concept through final delivery
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across disciplines
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to take ownership while contributing to the team
  • Bonus experience with Houdini, X-Particles, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine, AI-supported creative workflows, emerging motion technologies, or live-action, editorial, and VFX pipelines
