Senior Margin and Operations Finance Manager - Remote

Partner with Baylor Genetics laboratory operations to guide cost forecasting, capacity economics, productivity analysis, and gross-margin improvement. This role connects operational performance with financial planning and executive decision-making.

Description

  • Act as FP&A's primary finance partner for laboratory operations and related operating teams
  • Build forward-looking insight into cost of services, gross margin, cost-to-serve, capacity, labor productivity, reagent and consumable usage, supply-chain economics, and improvement initiatives
  • Lead operational-driver-based FP&A forecasts for cost of services
  • Convert revenue and operational assumptions into projected gross margins
  • Create and maintain cost-per-test and cost-to-serve models
  • Assess laboratory capacity, throughput, utilization, and future capacity needs
  • Evaluate staffing, overtime, throughput, labor utilization, and productivity trends
  • Review reagent and consumable usage, yield, waste, purchasing economics, and sensitivity to volume changes
  • Work with Supply Chain and Procurement on sourcing, purchasing, inventory, and vendor programs
  • Deliver integrated gross-margin bridges and analyses of operational variances
  • Set financial baselines, validate business cases, and monitor savings delivered by margin initiatives
  • Assess operating investments through ROI, payback, NPV, and scenario analysis
  • Create leading financial and operational performance indicators
  • Monitor COS and gross-margin forecast accuracy while identifying margin risks and opportunities
  • Contribute to operating reviews by translating performance results into financial implications and recommended actions
  • Prepare analyses for executive reviews, forecasts, and Board materials
  • Collaborate with FP&A Systems and BI teams to incorporate cost drivers and margin reporting into Adaptive and governed BI platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline is required
  • MBA or another advanced degree is preferred
  • At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in FP&A, operations finance, cost analytics, or strategic finance is typically expected
  • Experience in diagnostics, laboratory, manufacturing, healthcare operations, or another high-volume operating setting is preferred
  • Strong command of cost behavior, fixed and variable cost structures, gross margin, standard costs, and operational-driver modeling
  • Proven ability to build cost-to-serve, capacity, productivity, business-case, and scenario models
  • Experience working directly with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, or technical leadership
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
  • Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning or a comparable EPM platform is preferred
  • Strong experience analyzing labor, materials and reagents, consumables, logistics, send-outs, and other operating cost drivers is preferred
  • Ability to separate accounting variances from underlying operational economics and turn findings into management actions
  • Clear written and verbal communicator who can explain complex margin and operational topics to senior leaders
