Senior Electrical Engineer – Naval Propulsion | HII

Design and test propulsion-related electrical components for HII’s Navy aircraft carriers and battleships. Contribute to ship modernization, new vessel development, and standard naval valve systems.

Description

  • Provide engineering support for electrical and electromechanical systems within the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard
  • Contribute to the development of new aircraft carriers
  • Help modernize the existing aircraft carrier fleet
  • Support the design of a new battleship class
  • Develop standard valve designs used across the Navy
  • Research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
  • Design electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic applications
  • Own system and component design activities
  • Report on assigned technical areas to NNS management and customers
  • Coordinate with vendors
  • Train and assist in managing junior engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of relevant exempt experience, master’s degree with 7 years of relevant professional experience, or Ph.D. with 4 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Working knowledge of conceptual designs for common electrical and electronic components
  • Ability to apply electrical and electronic engineering principles proactively to resolve technical design issues
  • Ability to read, analyze, and create electrical schematics and wiring charts
  • Familiarity with software used to create physics-based models of electrical circuits and control systems
  • Ability to train and help manage junior engineers’ work
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information to all levels of NNS management and directly to customers
  • No security clearance required to begin
