Senior Distributed Systems Engineer, Content and Business Products at Netflix (Remote)

Design and operate Netflix infrastructure supporting global content planning, production, and distribution. Shape reliable systems and architectural direction across engineering teams.

Description

  • Develop technology that enables Netflix to scale global content and business operations efficiently.
  • Build and operate resilient, scalable, highly available infrastructure with strong developer experience, observability, and operational practices.
  • Investigate technical challenges and customer needs, then address them with fit-for-purpose technologies.
  • Champion high-quality code and sound engineering practices.
  • Mentor colleagues, support career growth, and contribute to technical communities.
  • Define technical direction and make architectural decisions for engineering initiatives.
  • Partner effectively with cross-functional and external teams to influence outcomes.
  • Join the on-call rotation and lead reviews of operational incidents.
  • Support products and services that optimize and automate content planning, financing, production, promotion, and distribution.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience designing and developing complex distributed systems.
  • Recent proficiency with Java, C#, or another object-oriented programming language.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, concurrency, multithreading, performance tuning, and observability.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting, building, and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, high-performance distributed systems.
  • Experience setting technical direction, making architecture decisions, and influencing partner and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to explain complex technical subjects clearly to varied stakeholders and guide decisions through written and verbal communication.
  • Experience participating in on-call rotations and leading incident reviews.
  • A product-oriented approach to infrastructure and platform engineering.
  • Experience creating long-term technical strategies that connect business objectives with targeted technology investments.
  • Proficiency designing and implementing gRPC and/or GraphQL APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Memcached, and/or AWS.
  • Familiarity with library development and dependency-injection frameworks, preferably Spring Boot.
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate software development.
  • Proactively evaluate and validate emerging AI-driven development tools to improve team productivity and operational efficiency.
