Senior Data Engineer, DevOps and Automation - APS Bank (Hybrid, Malta)

Description

  • Contribute across DevOps initiatives, including RPA automation, software development, CI/CD implementation, and daily operational support.
  • Partner with teams to design system architectures that follow organisational guidelines, security policies, and industry best practices.
  • Build and maintain internal applications against business requirements, with an emphasis on automation and continuous improvement.
  • Deploy and manage CI/CD pipelines for installation and release processes across multiple environments.
  • Work with suppliers and third-party partners to deliver business value and support organisational objectives.
  • Support the Team Lead in overseeing the DevOps function through coaching, mentoring, and practical guidance.
  • Maintain team documentation such as playbooks, operational procedures, and incident-resolution lessons learned.
  • Investigate incidents, respond to operational queries, and help maintain service availability through uptime monitoring and routine maintenance.
  • Follow the Bank’s policies, guidelines, and operating procedures.
  • Help the team automate repetitive activities.
  • Take part in production-support on-call rotations.
  • Handle other duties reasonably assigned over time.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability and strong analytical thinking.
  • Comfort working with a broad range of technologies and tools.
  • Understanding of programming and automation technologies, including CI/CD with Azure DevOps or an equivalent platform.
  • Knowledge of service-oriented architecture (SOA) concepts and principles.
  • Understanding of software design and architectural practices.
  • Solid working knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases.
  • Proficiency in server administration and networking fundamentals.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least two years of experience as a Software Developer, DevOps Engineer, or in a comparable position.
  • Experience deploying, supporting, and maintaining business applications, services, and their underlying systems.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.
  • Development experience using the .NET Framework.
  • Proficiency in C#, JavaScript, SQL, and modern programming languages.
  • Ability to manage supplier-related activities.
  • Master’s degree, degree, or diploma in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of ITIL-based or ITSM platforms.
  • Ability to conduct API and automated software-testing activities.
  • Experience with RPA platforms such as Blue Prism and Microsoft Power Platform applications such as Power Automate.
  • Understanding of enterprise-wide core solutions, customer-facing systems, administration, change management, and NoSQL database principles.
  • IT best-practice qualifications, such as ITIL 4 or software-testing certifications, are desirable.
