Senior Contract Manager - Hydroelectric Projects - Remote Canada

Description

  • Manage contracts for major hydroelectric projects from bid and negotiation through execution, close-out, and warranty.
  • Create and execute project-specific contract strategies that reflect objectives, risks, obligations, and opportunities.
  • Draft, review, and adapt commercial and contractual provisions.
  • Support negotiations and finalize contracts, amendments, change orders, and other commercial agreements.
  • Prepare contractual notices, amendments, change submissions, claims, and formal correspondence.
  • Ensure project teams understand and fulfill their contractual rights, responsibilities, and obligations.
  • Work with Project Directors and cross-functional teams on mitigation actions and opportunity plans.
  • Review contracts to identify risks, opportunities, deviations, assumptions, and items requiring continued attention.
  • Create and maintain contract management plans.
  • Lead approaches to changes, claims, dispute prevention, and dispute resolution.
  • Oversee contractual notices, changes, claims, disputes, and insurance matters.
  • Coordinate significant claims and disputes with Project Leadership, Legal, Finance, and other functions.
  • Advise project teams on contractual matters and commercial decisions.
  • Monitor contractual commitments and share contract information across project organizations.
  • Contribute to project risk and opportunity reviews.
  • Monitor compliance with contract terms and record deviations.
  • Maintain records and tools covering obligations, milestones, notices, changes, claims, correspondence, and decisions.
  • Deliver recurring contractual risk assessments and updates to project and functional leaders.
  • Act as a senior contract advisor and guide less-experienced contract management professionals.
  • Support hydroelectric projects mainly in British Columbia and potentially elsewhere in Western Canada.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, quantity surveying, business, finance, law, or a related technical or commercial field.
  • At least eight years of contract management experience in complex project settings such as EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, power generation, or major industrial operations.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian energy or infrastructure sector.
  • Experience working with public utilities, public-sector entities, or sophisticated infrastructure customers.
  • Ability to compile, structure, draft, and manage complex, high-value amendments, changes, claims, and contractual submissions.
  • Strong understanding of project financial factors, including cost, margin, risk, opportunity, and cash impact.
  • Ability to assess, structure, and resolve complex contractual and commercial issues.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Proactive approach, strong ownership, and willingness to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 15–25%.
  • Significant experience managing turnkey EPC projects or other complex delivery models.
  • Experience in hydropower, power generation, major infrastructure, construction, or complex industrial projects.
  • Experience administering major equipment supply, installation, consortium, or subcontracting arrangements.
  • Sound judgment when assessing contractual and commercial risk.
  • Experience managing substantial changes, claims, insurance matters, or disputes.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving project environment.
  • Experience working in a complex global or matrix organization.
  • Ability to clearly explain contractual risk, commercial exposure, and recommended strategy to senior project and business leaders.
  • Ability to influence teams and stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
  • Experience coaching or guiding less-experienced contract management professionals.
