Senior Cloud Database Engineer II – Dublin, Ireland

Operate and strengthen AWS database platforms for LexisNexis Risk Solutions as a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II. Focus on recovery automation, production monitoring, and resilient service design.

Description

  • Develop monitoring queries and define service-level baselines for critical database services
  • Engineer AWS database solutions that strengthen availability, fault tolerance, and recoverability
  • Join the on-call rotation, support recovery from major production incidents, and serve as a senior escalation contact
  • Coordinate failover exercises across AWS regions and within individual regions
  • Automate system and component recovery through Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management
  • Deliver production automation that minimizes manual work and operational toil
  • Build and operate monitoring, alerting, and observability capabilities, including reusable dashboards defined in code
  • Support post-mortems, root cause investigations, reliability documentation, and junior engineer mentoring
  • Work with engineering teams to provide technical direction and advance operational excellence
  • Create highly available, scalable cloud database platforms for business-critical and customer-facing applications

Requirements

  • Practical experience operating managed cloud databases such as Aurora MySQL, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, or Amazon ElastiCache
  • Advanced SQL capability covering database design, optimization, and troubleshooting, including schemas, query tuning, indexes, locks, and performance bottlenecks
  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, or a comparable language for scripting and automation
  • Experience creating and operating monitoring and observability solutions
  • Sound knowledge of high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery practices
  • Background in on-call support, incident response, and root cause analysis
  • Experience with CloudFormation or Terraform Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD practices for managing database changes
  • Experience with database security, access governance, resilience patterns, or high-availability production environments
