EXP is a Southern California 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on education, career readiness, and collaboration between schools and industry. Its programs help high schools deliver career-based learning that connects classroom education with practical experience and future opportunities. During the 2022–2023 school year, EXP served more than 8,200 students across 13 Southern California high schools in five school districts, supported by over 400 industry volunteers, mentors, and internship hosts. The organization works with educators and employers to expand students’ access to education, experience, and career pathways.

Senior Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) - Sudbury Hybrid

Lead municipal infrastructure projects for EXP, overseeing civil design, project delivery, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary coordination across roads, drainage, water, and wastewater systems.

Description

  • Lead civil design and technical reviews for municipal infrastructure projects
  • Develop designs for roads, transportation corridors, grading, earthworks, stormwater, drainage, water, wastewater, utilities, foundations, and site servicing
  • Verify compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal codes, standards, and regulations
  • Prepare, review, and approve calculations, design briefs, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and tender and contract documents
  • Control project scope, budgets, schedules, deliverables, progress reporting, and risk management
  • Direct multidisciplinary coordination and communicate with clients, stakeholders, municipalities, regulators, utilities, landowners, and approval authorities
  • Complete QA/QC reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers and technologists
  • Evaluate contractor proposals, shop drawings, and other technical submissions
  • Support construction and contract administration through RFIs, submittals, inspections, field reviews, commissioning, and as-built drawing reviews
  • Conduct site investigations and geotechnical assessments while comparing alternative technical solutions
  • Coordinate integration among Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Environmental disciplines
  • Maintain consistent client communication throughout each project phase

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Ontario Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or eligibility for licensure
  • Substantial municipal infrastructure engineering experience covering roads and transportation, water and wastewater systems, stormwater management, and drainage; bridge or structural experience is an asset
  • Extensive understanding of engineering regulations, codes, and standards, including municipal and provincial requirements, TAC, AASHTO, CSA, the Canadian Building Code, and environmental and permitting obligations
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Bentley InRoads or OpenRoads, BIM, and GIS tools
  • Advanced knowledge of municipal servicing, road design, grading, drainage, and water resource management
  • Experience delivering both preliminary and detailed design projects
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with external stakeholders and regulators
  • Strong communication and client-service skills, including meeting and workshop facilitation
  • Project management experience covering scope, budget, schedule, and risk control
  • Field experience in site inspections, compliance reviews, and construction support
  • Knowledge of municipal asset management principles is an asset
