Senior AI Software Developer at Leidos — Hybrid

Leidos is seeking a senior AI software developer to modernize safety-critical air traffic management systems. The role focuses on microservices, AI-assisted development, and real-time software for national air traffic operations.

Description

  • Lead Agile sprint planning by aligning team priorities, defining deliverables, and driving project execution.
  • Provide technical mentorship, promote engineering best practices, remove blockers, and support continuous improvement.
  • Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications.
  • Partner with product owners, architects, engineers, systems engineering, and program teams in an Agile/SAFe environment.
  • Take part in sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Convert business and technical requirements into functional software solutions.
  • Write clean, maintainable, testable code using CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
  • Contribute to system architecture discussions and technical decisions.
  • Connect services with databases, messaging platforms, and external APIs.
  • Investigate issues, improve performance, and advance system quality.
  • Coordinate with QA, DevOps, and platform teams to deliver reliable software.
  • Create automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing strategies.
  • Apply AI-assisted tools to coding, refactoring, debugging, and test development.
  • Build and modernize real-time, safety-critical systems used in national air traffic operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Practical experience building and supporting microservices-based systems.
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Java, Python, or C++ on Linux.
  • Experience with or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, Claude-Code, automation, or intelligent platforms.
  • Professional experience in Agile development environments.
  • Working knowledge of APIs and distributed-system concepts.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Successful completion of government-customer background investigations as required.
  • Experience with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Experience using relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or comparable event-streaming technologies.
  • Cloud development experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes containerization and orchestration.
  • Experience working in DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience with test-automation frameworks and integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
