Scientific Computing Software Engineer at Areté (Onsite)

Translate Python-based signal and image-processing algorithms into reliable operational software supporting Areté’s national-security solutions. Build, test, and optimize applications alongside scientists and engineers.

Description

  • Partner with scientists and engineers to convert advanced signal- and image-processing algorithms from languages such as Python into efficient, production-ready software
  • Design, develop, analyze, and test applications from initial prototype through operational deployment
  • Apply current programming languages and software-development practices
  • Evaluate algorithm performance using real-world data
  • Record findings in technical reports and clearly documented code
  • Address complex technical challenges in a collaborative team setting

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, physics, or engineering, with an emphasis on scientific computing
  • Academic or practical exposure to college-level physics, mathematics, signal processing, or image processing
  • Proficiency in Python and scientific libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas
  • Proficiency in C or C++ programming
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity and commitment to ongoing learning
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing to small teams
  • Availability to work onsite in the office full time
  • Ability to obtain and retain a TS/SCI security clearance and program access
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Eligibility for access to classified information
  • Successful completion of a Department of Transportation drug test
  • Engineer 1: bachelor’s degree or higher required
  • Engineer 2: bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience, or master’s degree with no experience
  • Staff Engineer: bachelor’s degree plus 5 years, master’s degree plus 3 years, or PhD with no experience
  • Preferred: data analysis and visualization experience
  • Preferred: experience working with Linux
  • Preferred: CUDA programming and GPU architecture optimization experience
  • Preferred: familiarity with MPI and OpenMP parallel programming models
  • Preferred: experience optimizing scientific-computing applications
  • Preferred: user interface, user experience, or front-end GUI development experience
  • Preferred: physics-based modeling and simulation experience
  • Preferred: remote-sensing experience using electro-optics or synthetic-aperture radar
  • Preferred: classical signal or image processing experience in detection, estimation, or tracking
  • Preferred: experience with computer vision, image and data fusion, image classification, or automated target recognition
