Remote Embedded Engineer - Latin America

Join Avenga as a remote Embedded Engineer in Latin America, helping modernize legacy PLC-based industrial automation systems. You will support re-architecture, integration, and migration work across international engineering projects.

Description

  • Assess current PLC solutions and legacy implementations to uncover opportunities for modernization
  • Help transition PLC-centered systems to contemporary technology frameworks through re-architecture initiatives
  • Transform monolithic, poorly documented legacy code into modular and reusable designs
  • Use object-oriented programming practices in modern industrial automation environments
  • Improve memory mapping, user-defined data types (UDTs), and tag structures for maintainability and performance
  • Create and implement standardized state-machine designs, including PackML-based models
  • Work with Wind River and customer stakeholders to clarify technical needs and migration goals
  • Support system integration, design reviews, modernization planning, and technical recommendations

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience developing PLC systems or working in industrial automation
  • Strong grasp of PLC programming fundamentals and industrial control systems
  • Practical experience with one or more major PLC platforms, such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Beckhoff, or Schneider Electric
  • Background in assessing and updating legacy industrial systems
  • Knowledge of software architecture, code refactoring, and migration project practices
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and system integration abilities
  • Upper-Intermediate English proficiency or above
  • Comfort working with international, cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with PLCopen standards and associated tools is advantageous
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design principles is advantageous
  • Experience in industrial software modernization or digital transformation initiatives is advantageous
  • Automotive industry experience is advantageous
  • Experience with object-oriented industrial programming in TwinCAT, CODESYS, or comparable environments is advantageous
