Remote Director of Underwriting at Ledgebrook

Lead underwriting appetite, audits, and binding authority agreement negotiations for Ledgebrook’s specialty insurance carrier. Manage underwriting leaders across the program portfolio.

Description

  • Define and maintain enterprise underwriting appetite, standards, and guidelines across all programs with the CPO and the CRO’s Actuarial function.
  • Lead and develop Underwriting Managers, review program-level audits, and approve findings requiring escalation.
  • Own underwriting due diligence for new programs alongside Business Development, including evaluation of the underwriting operation.
  • Present go-or-no-go recommendations to the CPO for new programs.
  • Act as the senior underwriting authority in binding authority agreement negotiations, covering authority limits, referral thresholds, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Partner with Legal to finalize binding authority agreement language.
  • Monitor audit findings through remediation across the underwriting portfolio.
  • Deliver portfolio-wide underwriting quality trend reports to the CPO.
  • Work with Actuarial and Claims to assess loss experience, emerging trends, and underwriting guideline updates across programs.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of property and casualty underwriting experience, including 4 or more years managing or supervising underwriters in a delegated-authority or MGA oversight environment.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing underwriting guidelines and appetite for a book of business rather than only applying existing standards.
  • Experience negotiating underwriting terms in binding authority agreements directly with program partners.
  • CPCU, AU, or an equivalent underwriting designation is preferred.
  • Previous underwriting leadership experience with a fronting carrier, program administrator, or MGA is preferred.
  • Experience across multiple lines of business relevant to Stonehaven’s target programs is preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
