Procurement Category Manager, Structural Components

Lead sourcing for structural components and construction equipment supporting SOLV Energy’s utility-scale solar, battery storage, and infrastructure projects. Negotiate supplier agreements and manage procurement costs.

Description

  • Set category strategies for structural components and construction equipment in line with business goals, project needs, and market conditions.
  • Analyze supplier markets, benchmark pricing, and develop category insights.
  • Work with Engineering, Construction, Fleet, and Operations to define specifications and sourcing approaches.
  • Find, qualify, and onboard suppliers.
  • Assess total ownership costs, supplier capabilities, production capacity, and commercial competitiveness.
  • Run competitive RFPs, RFQs, and bidding processes.
  • Review supplier proposals and prepare recommendations.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, warranties, service terms, performance guarantees, lead times, and other commercial conditions.
  • Create and manage master supply, strategic partnership, rental, fleet purchasing, and other procurement agreements.
  • Coordinate project procurement and support on-time delivery.
  • Source pile drivers, truss drivers, GPS guidance systems, and robotic conveyance and assembly equipment.
  • Compare purchase, lease, and rental options.
  • Work with Fleet and Operations to improve equipment deployment, lifecycle costs, maintenance support, and asset utilization.
  • Negotiate service, maintenance, warranty, and aftermarket support agreements.
  • Track equipment market trends, supply constraints, and technology developments.
  • Act as the main commercial contact for strategic suppliers.
  • Set supplier performance measures and scorecards.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews and executive supplier meetings.
  • Handle supplier escalations and corrective action plans.
  • Identify and reduce supply chain risks.
  • Prepare contingency sourcing plans.
  • Improve procurement processes, automation, and working practices.
  • Contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, contracts, and industry regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, engineering, construction management, finance, or a related field.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, category management, procurement, supply chain management, or supplier relations.
  • Experience sourcing structural commodities, construction materials, industrial equipment, or capital equipment.
  • A track record of leading complex negotiations and supplier agreements.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing cross-functional stakeholders and influencing executive decisions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience in utility-scale solar, renewable energy, EPC, construction, infrastructure, energy, or industrial sectors.
  • Experience sourcing heavy construction equipment, fleet assets, or large capital equipment programs.
  • Understanding of solar tracker systems, foundations, steel fabrication, and renewable construction methods.
  • Knowledge of equipment ownership models, fleet lifecycle management, rental strategies, and equipment financing structures.
  • Professional certification such as CPSM, CPM, CSCP, PMP, or an equivalent credential.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer sponsorship.
