Principal Systems Engineer – Defence Systems, Leonardo Luton

Lead the development, integration and verification of defence systems supporting Leonardo’s military aircraft programmes in Luton. Coordinate technical work, testing, problem resolution and multidisciplinary engineering collaboration.

Description

  • Create integration and test plans
  • Manage parts, technical documentation and configuration changes
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on system and subsystem development
  • Coordinate with UK-based suppliers, integrators and end users
  • Integrate new capabilities into established systems
  • Develop solutions within defined hardware limits and constraints
  • Investigate integration and evaluation anomalies through root-cause analysis
  • Plan and execute tests and trials to demonstrate equipment functionality and performance
  • Direct technical activities and engineering initiatives
  • Guide and develop fellow engineers through mentoring and coaching
  • Prepare and present reports, proposals and technical briefings for customers and industry partners
  • Promote knowledge exchange and the adoption of effective practices

Requirements

  • Honours degree in a science-related discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Existing knowledge of electronic warfare, or a willingness to develop expertise in the field
  • Understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle
  • Understanding of problem definition techniques
  • Experience with requirements engineering, including IBM DOORS
  • Knowledge of systems architecture principles
  • Knowledge of system integration, testing and evaluation
  • Understanding of verification and validation methods
  • At least five years of UK residency
  • UK passport holder
  • Eligible for UK Government BPSS screening and further national security vetting, including SC or DV clearance
  • Desirable experience in safety, security, airworthiness or reliability engineering
  • Desirable knowledge of digital signal processing, RF systems, multisensor data fusion and tracking, real-time data simulation or generation, military electronic systems, AI or machine-learning data analysis, or operational Electronic Intelligence or Electronic Warfare experience
