Power Systems Engineer I – Arc Flash Boot Camp, Cincinnati

Join Qualus as a Power Systems Engineer supporting arc flash, protection, and electrical system studies. The role combines structured engineering training with hands-on substation work and field-based projects.

Description

  • Attend Qualus University's Summer 2027 Engineering Boot Camp
  • Complete classroom training delivered by Qualus engineers and industry specialists
  • Take part in site visits and practical training in substation safety and equipment
  • Receive structured preparation for the FE exam
  • Conduct power system studies covering short circuit and equipment evaluation, overcurrent coordination and protection, arc flash, load flow, motor starting, power quality, and harmonic analysis
  • Use SKM, ETAP, and/or Easypower for short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies
  • Recommend cost-effective mitigation approaches for low- and medium-voltage equipment
  • Prepare study reports and explain findings and recommendations to customers
  • Collect field and project data
  • Create or implement arc flash mitigation designs
  • Review new construction drawing packages
  • Create relay protection setpoints and settings files
  • Create or revise equipment control schematics, one-lines, three-lines, and wiring diagrams
  • Contribute to project teams in support of quality and project management objectives
  • Deliver work on schedule while following related processes and procedures
  • Build and maintain expertise in electrical substations and protection and control schematics through formal training and project work
  • Deliver small- to medium-sized projects with limited supervision
  • Manage assigned projects and job-cost responsibility within approved budget estimates
  • Coordinate work with internal departments and customers

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, with a power systems focus
  • Mechanical Engineering degrees may be accepted for certain roles
  • Availability to travel 50–70% of the time
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Relevant academic experience with medium- to high-voltage electricity is preferred
  • Familiarity with test equipment and tool or wiring applications
  • Ability to work independently and accurately with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical recommendations to customers
  • Strong computer skills
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record
