Platform Software Engineer – Sunnyvale Hybrid

Build networking, embedded, and security software for high-performance platforms at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Work across protocols, drivers, system architecture, and platform debugging.

Description

  • Create, troubleshoot, and debug software enhancements and new products for high-performance networking and security systems
  • Build software for operating systems, network subsystems, routing engines, security modules, utilities, embedded platforms, and Internet tools
  • Assess hardware compatibility and help shape hardware designs for network interface and link-layer protocols
  • Implement enhancements, updates, and code changes across networking system software
  • Develop and maintain network interfaces, protocols, security capabilities, and underlying SoC SDKs and drivers
  • Evaluate design requirements, plan coding and integration work, and participate in architecture reviews
  • Carry out and support test plans, verification procedures, and technical documentation
  • Diagnose software issues and recommend practical improvements
  • Work with hardware, QA, system test, and customer-facing teams
  • Resolve complex field problems using logs, system-level investigation, and cross-layer collaboration
  • Maintain and enhance existing features through sustaining engineering
  • Offer technical direction and coordinate work with teammates and cross-functional partners

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Five to eight years of experience in networking, embedded systems, or high-performance security platforms
  • Proficiency in C or C++ and Python
  • Substantial experience with switches, routers, and security systems
  • Experience developing software for multicore embedded platforms, including network interfaces, protocol processing, and security functions
  • Solid knowledge of operating-system internals, virtualization, computer architecture, and system-level debugging
  • Experience working in Unix or Linux environments and integrating hardware with software
  • Familiarity with software testing practices, test-plan execution, and debugging tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, mentor colleagues, and contribute to a high-performance engineering environment
  • Preferred: experience with link-layer protocols such as LACP, LLDP, and EAPOL
  • Preferred: experience with Broadcom or Marvell SDKs for switching or network-interface subsystems
  • Preferred: experience using AI tools for coding support and intelligent debugging
  • Preferred: knowledge of AI and machine-learning methods for forecasting potential software or hardware failures
