On-Site Technical Writer at Nellis AFB, Nevada

Technical Writer supporting engineering, cybersecurity, networking, and simulation systems for Mission Technologies, a division of HII. The on-site role produces controlled procedures, reports, and operational documentation at Nellis AFB.

Description

  • Gather, organize, and convert technical and operational information into formal documentation
  • Work with engineers, developers, system administrators, and operators to obtain accurate technical details
  • Observe system operations, integration work, troubleshooting sessions, demonstrations, testing, and system bring-up activities
  • Interview subject matter experts to capture procedural and technical information
  • Develop and maintain installation guides, test procedures, troubleshooting instructions, operational workflows, system summaries, after-action records, and configuration references
  • Apply consistent formatting, terminology, numbering, tables, headers, footers, fonts, and figure references across documents
  • Produce checklists, process flows, and related forms
  • Manage version control, change tracking, and document revision histories
  • Perform initial quality checks for accuracy, clarity, formatting standards, and template compliance
  • Coordinate subject matter expert reviews while monitoring document progress and review status
  • Convert complex technical terminology into clear procedural guidance for managers and operators
  • Find documentation gaps and recommend content enhancements
  • Work with government, contractor, and engineering stakeholders to confirm technical accuracy and resolve inconsistencies
  • Attend project kickoff meetings and documentation planning sessions
  • Support on-site modeling, simulation, and training capabilities for government personnel at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center

Requirements

  • Six years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field, four years with a master’s degree in a related field, or a high school diploma or equivalent with 10 years of relevant experience
  • Background creating technical documentation in a structured environment
  • Ability to produce system engineering reports, software development reports, manuals, presentations, design and development documentation, and test or user documentation
  • Ability to establish and operate practical configuration management processes covering check-in/check-out, builds, and releases
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Windows, and Linux operating systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An active Top Secret clearance within the past 24 months is required
  • Ability to obtain and retain an active TS/SCI clearance, including supporting SAP/SPR clearances
  • Preferred: Active or current DoD Top Secret SCI clearance
  • Preferred: Experience with the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE)
  • Preferred: Experience supporting the Department of Defense, Air Force, or complex engineering environments
  • Preferred: Familiarity with networking, cybersecurity, audiovisual, or simulation systems
  • Preferred: Experience working with integration laboratories, test events, or system deployments
  • Preferred: Ability to turn technical team terminology into polished documentation suitable for managers
  • On-site work is required; this position is not eligible for remote work
