Nonprofit Controller - United States Remote

Lead financial operations for Emancipet, a nonprofit veterinary care provider serving the United States remotely. Oversee accounting, budgeting, compliance, grants, reporting, and finance team development.

Description

  • Lead and develop the Finance and Accounting team
  • Coach team members and support their professional growth
  • Promote collaboration across Finance and Accounting and other departments
  • Assess and improve financial systems, tools, and workflows
  • Deliver financial analysis and recommendations to support leadership planning and decisions
  • Establish and apply effective financial operations practices
  • Coordinate with departments to align financial processes with organizational priorities
  • Oversee month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation and delivery
  • Maintain accurate, timely, GAAP-compliant reporting under nonprofit accounting standards
  • Direct general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll activities
  • Create and manage organizational budgets and forecasts with the Director of Finance and Administration
  • Track financial results against approved budgets
  • Support financial modeling and scenario planning
  • Oversee grant finances and compliance with funding requirements
  • Plan and manage organizational cash flow
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, tax, and audit obligations
  • Lead audit preparation and coordination
  • Identify financial risks and maintain effective internal controls

Requirements

  • At least five years of progressive accounting or financial management experience
  • At least two years leading finance or accounting teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring finance or accounting staff
  • Nonprofit financial management experience covering compliance, audits, and reporting, including IRS Form 990, GAAP, and FASB
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management capabilities
  • Experience establishing and improving financial operations across payables, receivables, payroll, and reporting
  • Proficiency with financial systems, accounting software, and ERP platforms
  • Experience with Sage Intacct is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls for fraud prevention and financial integrity
  • Ability to prepare and present financial reports to organizational leaders and boards
  • Experience improving financial systems and processes, increasing efficiency and transparency, and reinforcing internal controls
  • Ability to turn financial information into practical recommendations
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and align financial practices with organizational goals

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; Emancipet cannot provide or assume sponsorship for employment visas
