Lambda
Lambda
Lambda provides cloud infrastructure and hardware for AI development. Its offerings include on-demand GPU clusters for multi-node model training and fine-tuning, inference endpoints and APIs, and the Lambda GPU Cloud with NVIDIA GPU infrastructure for enterprise AI workloads. The company also supplies customizable GPU workstations and desktops for deep learning, along with streamlined installation and managed upgrades for tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and NVIDIA CUDA. Lambda supports AI developers through both public and private cloud environments built around high-performance NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs.

Network Planning and Design Manager

Design data center, backbone and customer connectivity for Lambda’s AI cloud infrastructure. Guide carrier partners and network delivery from requirements through deployment.

Description

  • Create physical and optical connectivity designs for data centers, points of presence, backbone routes and customer interconnects
  • Convert customer and network needs into route plans, capacity forecasts, equipment requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Assess dark fiber, wavelength, internet transit and interconnection options for latency, resilience, cost, delivery time and expansion potential
  • Check route diversity and uncover shared conduits, building entrances, fiber extensions and other design dependencies
  • Collaborate with carrier engineering teams to develop routes, extend service and address coverage, access or capacity constraints
  • Review suppliers, collect technical proposals and budget quotes, and recommend options with transparent tradeoffs
  • Coordinate with optical and network equipment partners on alternatives when fiber availability, equipment lead times or cost threaten a build
  • Supply the Supply Chain team with technical scope for negotiations and contracts
  • Prepare complete design packages for Network Engineering review and approval
  • Coordinate build schedules, dependencies and acceptance criteria with Delivery
  • Address design questions during delivery and update plans as site or supplier conditions change
  • Partner with Site Selection and network planning on carrier access, backbone capacity and future growth
  • Work with Network Engineering to turn project lessons into reusable designs and standards

Requirements

  • Experience designing or developing carrier, cloud or data center connectivity, including taking designs from requirements through delivery
  • Practical understanding of dark fiber, wavelength services, optical transport and internet interconnection
  • Ability to evaluate physical route diversity, equipment dependencies and capacity requirements beyond what route maps show
  • Experience working directly with carrier engineers, colocation providers or equipment suppliers to resolve design constraints
  • Ability to compare suppliers on technical fit, delivery risk and total cost, and clearly explain recommendations
  • Ability to produce clear design documentation for engineering reviewers and delivery teams
  • Preferred: experience designing long-haul optical networks or DWDM systems
  • Preferred: experience with private cloud connectivity, internet exchanges or large compute deployments
  • Preferred: carrier solutions engineering experience or familiarity with route mapping and capacity planning tools
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite four days a week at the San Francisco or Bellevue office
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Benefits

  • Cash and equity compensation
  • Health, dental and vision coverage for employees and dependents
  • Wellness and commuter stipends for select roles
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company match for U.S. employees
