General Counsel (Remote, Oregon)

AutoBidMaster is seeking a General Counsel to lead commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, disputes, and litigation. The role advises executives and manages legal risk for an automotive marketplace.

Description

  • Act as AutoBidMaster’s lead in-house legal adviser.
  • Set the company’s legal direction and guide matters through resolution.
  • Manage Terms & Conditions, customer agreements, e-commerce disclosures, sales materials, and other transaction documents.
  • Direct legal work for commercial transactions, contracting, and business risk.
  • Advise executives on transactions, contractual obligations, risk allocation, and commercial decisions.
  • Provide legal input on products, services, partnerships, and other business initiatives.
  • Build contracting standards, templates, and operating processes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate vendor, partner, technology, service, and insurance agreements.
  • Oversee DMV, dealer licensing, consumer protection, and state and federal regulatory obligations.
  • Manage licenses, registrations, corporate filings, entity compliance, resolutions, and other corporate records.
  • Track regulatory changes and recommend updates to processes, policies, and documentation.
  • Resolve escalated customer complaints and business disputes.
  • Address complaints involving government agencies, regulators, consumer organizations, and other third parties.
  • Recommend dispute-resolution approaches using legal exposure, cost, and business impact.
  • Lead litigation, arbitration, small claims, lawsuits, and related disputes.
  • Set and execute litigation strategy, including whether to defend, pursue, settle, or otherwise resolve matters.
  • Handle litigation and arbitration directly when appropriate while engaging outside counsel selectively.
  • Control litigation objectives, strategy, deadlines, outcomes, and legal spending.
  • Serve as a key legal adviser to executive leadership and business teams.
  • Research legal issues and deliver clear written or verbal recommendations.
  • Contribute to additional legal and business initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active good-standing membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Additional state bar admissions are preferred, especially in Florida, Oregon, and Texas.
  • About eight or more years of legal experience are preferred, including substantial corporate generalist work.
  • Previous in-house legal experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate commercial contracts and business agreements.
  • Experience in consumer-facing, e-commerce, automotive sales, dealerships, auctions, marketplaces, technology, or other regulated industries is preferred.
  • Experience with DMV matters, dealer licensing, vehicle titles, or related automotive regulation is advantageous.
  • Experience overseeing customer disputes, regulatory complaints, litigation, arbitration, and outside counsel.
  • Sound business judgment with the ability to weigh legal and commercial risk.
  • Ability to independently assess issues, provide strategic advice, and take responsibility for results.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-moving setting.
  • Practical, self-directed, and comfortable working independently.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally when needed.
