Engineering Design 3 – HII | Pascagoula, MS

Develops naval ship components and detail designs for HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding operation in Pascagoula. Leads engineering change scoping, layout reviews, quality assurance, and design improvement initiatives.

Description

  • Design major components or substantial portions of functional systems to improve products and support manufacturing operations
  • Prepare foundational data, preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals
  • Assess manufacturability, material and equipment availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-to-weight efficiency, contractual requirements, and cost
  • Collaborate with organizations affected by design development
  • Produce layouts for complex assemblies and detailed parts used in devices, mechanisms, and structures
  • Review completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, applicable standards, procedures, specifications, and calculation or dimensioning accuracy
  • Find design errors, omissions, and deficiencies, then recommend corrective revisions or improvements
  • Direct Detail Design scoping activities
  • Receive and assess ECP packages, initiate ECPs, define anticipated changes, and manage change-scoping work
  • Perform final-package reviews and quality assurance, and respond to internal and external negotiation questions

Requirements

  • High school diploma with 9 years of experience; associate degree with 7 years; bachelor’s degree with 5 years; master’s degree with 3 years; or PhD with no experience required
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Substantial experience in Marine Detail Design, Electrical Detail Design, or Outfitting Detail Design
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Broad engineering background, multiple design disciplines, or experience across different areas of design engineering preferred
