Embedded Software Architect, Military User Terminals at Telesat
Lead software architecture for Telesat’s military and government satellite communication terminals. Provide technical direction across secure embedded and real-time systems.
Description
- Own and evolve software architecture for military User Terminal products and programs
- Direct architecture trade studies and assess relevant technologies
- Work with Systems Engineering to translate system requirements into software architectures
- Verify that designs satisfy reliability, resilience, and cybersecurity objectives
- Specify interfaces connecting embedded software, networking components, modems, and external systems
- Act as the software technical authority in customer discussions and design reviews
- Advise development teams on architectural implementation and engineering practices
- Contribute to proposals, demonstrations, and technical evaluations
- Assist with integration, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations
- Coach software engineers and technical leads
- Set architectural direction across military User Terminal programs without direct reports
Requirements
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Ability to obtain clearance through the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience with progressively greater technical leadership responsibilities
- Background defining and leading architectures for SATCOM, wireless communications, networking, defense, aerospace, or telecommunications systems
- Experience supporting government, military, defense, or security-sensitive programs is highly desirable
- Strong command of software architecture principles and design methods
- Experience designing distributed, embedded, and real-time software systems
- Strong knowledge of SATCOM, wireless communications, modem technologies, RF systems, and IP-based communications
- Experience with User Terminal, gateway, modem, antenna control, networking, or telecommunications systems
- Understanding of military communications, tactical networking, and mission-critical systems
- Programming experience in C, C++, and Python
- Knowledge of Linux-based embedded systems and operating system fundamentals
- Strong understanding of routing, switching, VPNs, QoS, multicast, and secure communications
- Experience with virtualization, containerization, and cloud technologies
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure software development
- Experience with Agile development methods
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
