Chief Engineer - Marine Dredging, Galveston Onsite

Lead marine dredging equipment maintenance, inventory, and safety operations for Callan Marine in Galveston. Support project decisions, regulatory compliance, and reliable equipment performance.

Description

  • Oversee company-owned and rented equipment
  • Direct the repair and maintenance program
  • Manage equipment inventory and locations
  • Maintain inventory of critical spare parts
  • Report to the Vessel Manager
  • Advise project management on company-best-interest decisions, including fuel use, servicing intervals, deliveries, and non-critical repair scheduling
  • Keep accurate records of equipment inventory and locations
  • Ensure equipment remains operational and repairs are completed promptly
  • Track daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and inspections
  • Maintain comprehensive repair records
  • Order spare parts and supplies
  • Track and order fuel, lubricants, and water
  • Monitor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components on dredges and support equipment
  • Enforce equipment safety rules and regulations
  • Initiate corrective and preventive actions
  • Support safety and environmental initiatives tied to state and federal compliance and company programs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Experience managing equipment or demonstrated capability in equipment management
  • Experience supervising staff or crew members
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic expertise
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and preventive maintenance abilities
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Strong mentoring abilities
  • Ability to follow applicable safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to work as directed and complete assignments promptly and correctly
  • Willingness and ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended periods
  • Dependable and self-motivated work approach
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC
  • Knowledge of marine equipment, tools, and devices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable workplace accommodation
  • Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to walk, step, climb, stand, stoop, twist, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, climb, or sit repetitively or for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements using the feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds individually; loads of 30–60 pounds require additional lifting equipment
  • Ability to push and pull at a peak force of 150 pounds
  • Ability to climb stairs or vertical ladders 6 feet or higher
  • Ability to work in changing temperatures and outdoor, dusty, wet, humid, loud, and vibrating environments
