Chassis Systems Engineer

Ford Motor Company seeks a chassis systems engineer to integrate suspension components and ADAMS models for production vehicles. The role supports vehicle dynamics, testing, launches, suppliers, and manufacturing milestones.

Description

  • Own suspension hardpoints and the vehicle ADAMS CAE model as the primary point of contact
  • Review Chassis Systems health-chart metrics at each milestone and partner with component engineers to satisfy requirements
  • Act as the primary contact for chassis design concerns
  • Verify compatibility across chassis components, including bushings, ball joints, and threaded fastener joints
  • Coordinate durability-vehicle preparation and testing while confirming part pedigree against the CAE model
  • Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of chassis component problems
  • Support testing, prototype builds, launch builds, and ongoing Ford Racing vehicle production at plants and test facilities
  • Establish vehicle ride-height and alignment targets
  • Assess vehicle condition throughout build activities
  • Communicate travel and check-load requirements to shock and spring suppliers
  • Work daily with D&R engineers, vehicle attribute teams, program management, suppliers, and manufacturing to maintain specification compliance and enable effective decisions
  • Travel occasionally for vehicle development activities and supplier reviews

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering is required
  • Proven results in chassis systems, vehicle dynamics, vehicle architecture, or suspension component engineering are required
  • Experience across multiple stages of the vehicle product lifecycle
  • Professional experience using ADAMS vehicle-dynamics CAE modeling software is required
  • Strong understanding of chassis systems and their interfaces with other vehicle systems is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Knowledge of Ford product-development systems and processes, including GPDS, WERS, FEDEBOM, FEDE, Teamcenter, and 3DX, is preferred
  • Experience with vehicle manufacturing launches and prototype processes is preferred
  • Strong understanding of tunable suspension-component design, including shocks, coil springs, bushings, and associated mounting hardware, is preferred
  • Familiarity with CATIA CAD tools is preferred
  • Ford Tier II driver-evaluation certification for sub-limit vehicle evaluation is preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
