Business Process Specialist, Data Governance

Support Dow’s enterprise data governance by maintaining metadata, data catalogs, quality controls, and stewardship records. The role is based onsite in Midland, Michigan.

Description

  • Carry out established data governance policies, standards, processes, and controls.
  • Contribute to enterprise governance initiatives by completing assigned activities and deliverables.
  • Use approved governance methods, templates, and practices.
  • Build and maintain business and technical metadata, glossary entries, and data catalog records.
  • Record business definitions, data ownership, stewardship assignments, and lineage.
  • Keep governance repositories, standards, and supporting documentation up to date.
  • Assess data quality and validate data.
  • Track quality metrics, review results, and flag data issues.
  • Help investigate root causes and resolve data quality problems.
  • Test and validate governed data assets.
  • Work with Data Governance Managers and subject matter experts to capture business knowledge and requirements.
  • Prepare governance materials and recommendations for review and approval.
  • Enter and maintain information in enterprise data catalogs and governance platforms.
  • Assist with data classification, identification of critical data elements, and ownership alignment.
  • Help develop governance communications and training materials, and support awareness activities.
  • Help standardize and improve governance practices and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, relevant military experience at or above U.S. E5, Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class, or Sergeant level; alternatively, five years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or a related area.
  • Basic understanding of governance concepts, metadata, and data quality management.
  • Experience working with business and technical stakeholders on data initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, detail-oriented, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear communication and collaborative working skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Visa sponsorship or support is unavailable, including for any U.S. permanent residency process.
  • Familiarity with data catalogs, data quality platforms, or reporting tools is preferred.
  • Exposure to regulatory data requirements such as GDPR and HIPAA is preferred.
  • Experience in agile or project-based work settings is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, data modeling, or data analysis methods is preferred.
  • Ability to gather, document, and translate business data needs into governance standards and deliverables.
  • Ability to investigate data quality issues, find root causes, assess governance gaps, and develop solutions.
  • Ability to collect, organize, maintain, and document metadata, glossary terms, lineage, ownership details, and governance records.
  • Ability to work with business stakeholders, data stewards, subject matter experts, and technical teams.
  • Ability to prepare governance documentation, procedures, metadata definitions, training materials, and recommendations.
