Business Intelligence Developer, Tableau and Power BI — Remote, United States

Description

  • Design and maintain interactive dashboards and reports in Tableau and Microsoft Power BI
  • Turn complex business needs into intuitive, high-performing visualizations
  • Create operational, tactical, and executive reporting for program health, KPIs, performance trends, and compliance
  • Build drill-down features and self-service reporting solutions
  • Develop calculated fields, measures, KPIs, and supporting business logic
  • Produce high-volume transactional reports with data export functionality
  • Improve dashboard performance, scalability, and usability
  • Connect to and model data from relational databases, cloud warehouses, flat files, and APIs
  • Maintain semantic models, published data sources, and reusable datasets
  • Write and refine SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation
  • Partner with data engineering teams on pipelines, reporting views, aggregations, and data quality
  • Document definitions, lineage, and refresh schedules to support data governance
  • Deploy and administer Tableau Server, including high-availability configurations
  • Manage Power BI Service workspaces, capacities, and gateways
  • Administer accounts, roles, permissions, and governed content across both platforms
  • Track platform performance and refreshes while diagnosing operational issues
  • Assist with platform upgrades, patching, and license administration
  • Apply Row-Level Security in Tableau and Power BI
  • Embed Tableau dashboards through Connected Apps with JWT-based single sign-on
  • Support enterprise authentication and federal security requirements, including FedRAMP and agency ATO processes
  • Coordinate embedded API implementation with portal and application development teams
  • Operate within AWS GovCloud and/or Microsoft Azure environments
  • Support Databricks analytics workloads, including Delta Lake consumption and pipeline coordination
  • Assist with infrastructure deployment using Terraform and GitLab
  • Collect and clarify reporting needs with business stakeholders
  • Contribute to Agile ceremonies, dashboard reviews, and user acceptance testing
  • Create technical documentation, data dictionaries, dashboard specifications, and user guides
  • Train and assist end users and report consumers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 14 or more years of experience, a master’s degree with 12 or more years, or at least 4 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust clearance
  • United States citizenship is required
  • At least 4 years of practical Tableau dashboard and report development experience
  • At least 4 years of practical Microsoft Power BI dashboard and report development experience
  • Proficiency with SQL for querying, transforming, and validating relational data
  • Strong command of DAX and Power Query M for Power BI data modeling
  • Experience administering Tableau Server, including users, permissions, and extract schedules
  • Experience administering Power BI Service, including workspaces, gateways, and capacity planning
  • Experience applying Row-Level Security in Tableau and Power BI
  • Experience embedding BI dashboards in web applications through SSO and API integrations
  • Understanding of data modeling, dimensional modeling, and established analytics practices
  • Preferred: experience supporting federal programs, especially Department of Defense or civilian agency work
  • Preferred: familiarity with FedRAMP controls and agency ATO processes
  • Preferred: experience with AWS GovCloud or Microsoft Azure Government
  • Preferred: hands-on experience with Databricks
  • Preferred: experience with AWS Redshift, RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Glue, and Lambda
  • Preferred: familiarity with Terraform and GitLab for infrastructure as code and CI/CD
  • Preferred: experience with Tableau Next, Tableau Cloud, or AI-enabled analytics
  • Preferred: experience with Microsoft Power Platform
  • Preferred certifications include Tableau Desktop Specialist, Tableau Certified Data Analyst, Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300), or Databricks Certified Associate Developer
  • Nice to have: experience with SAP BusinessObjects, IBM Cognos, Domo, Sisense, Python, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, machine learning, NLQ, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents, or Microsoft Dataverse
