AWS Cloud Solutions Engineer – Maryland Remote

Design and deliver AWS cloud solutions for GDIT’s NIAID technology services, including scientific and high-performance computing applications. Support migrations, automation, DevOps, and cloud-native architecture initiatives.

Description

  • Design tailored AWS cloud solutions for NIAID business, scientific, and high-performance computing applications
  • Partner with product owners, researchers, developers, and other teams to define AWS application architectures
  • Advise teams on secure, effective cloud technology practices
  • Support the migration of products from on-premises infrastructure to AWS
  • Modernize monolithic applications through microservices or serverless architectures
  • Educate product teams on AWS services, technologies, and frameworks
  • Help teams provision environments, build and deploy applications, and automate operational processes
  • Create prototypes and expand platform capabilities across CI/CD, infrastructure as code, containers, serverless computing, and HPC
  • Attend daily stand-ups and communicate progress, upcoming work, and impediments
  • Act as an AWS Cloud subject matter expert for cross-functional teams
  • Present DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and technical solutions in Tech Talks webinars

Requirements

  • Technical training, relevant certifications, and/or a degree plus at least five years of related experience
  • At least three years of AWS experience, including ECS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation, including independently creating templates and modules
  • Experience using configuration management frameworks
  • Knowledge of containerization and practical experience packaging software applications into containers
  • Experience with container orchestration and deployment platforms such as AWS ECS and AWS EKS
  • Experience implementing and administering CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, or comparable tools
  • Experience presenting concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to produce thorough technical documentation
  • Ability to obtain a NIH Public Trust clearance
  • Experience with AWS security services and tools, including Security Groups, CloudTrail, Config, Inspector, and IAM
  • Experience managing configuration with AWS Systems Manager, Ansible, Jenkins, or similar technologies
  • Experience evaluating solution components, integration issues, and technology gaps
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices in a federal scientific health research setting
  • Experience converting applications to cloud-native architectures
  • Experience advising scientists, researchers, and developers on AWS solution design, migration, and optimization
