Associate Director, Global Oncology Communications

Lead global oncology communications for MSD’s biopharmaceutical portfolio, spanning data milestones, regulatory events, media engagement, and executive communications. Develop strategies that support in-line products and Phase 3 pipeline assets.

Description

  • Plan and execute integrated communications activities for oncology in-line products and Phase 3 pipeline assets
  • Lead communications for data readouts, medical meetings, regulatory milestones, and approvals
  • Shape editorial strategies that increase external awareness of late-stage oncology pipeline assets
  • Deliver targeted outreach across social and digital channels
  • Develop compelling storylines, media opportunities, and thought-leadership platforms
  • Prepare oncology leaders and coach them on messaging, media engagement, and external speaking opportunities
  • Create communications strategies, programs, and materials for global regions and subsidiaries
  • Counsel regions and subsidiaries on franchise and product communications matters
  • Collaborate with advocacy groups, external experts, researchers, trade media, and local news outlets
  • Manage press releases, social content, core response documents, and other materials through medical and legal review
  • Establish productive working relationships with review boards
  • Partner with public relations agencies and support management of associated budgets
  • Perform the role under the direction of the Director, Global Oncology Communications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, life sciences, or a related field
  • At least five years of communications or public relations experience
  • Experience managing product communications for data and regulatory milestones
  • In-depth knowledge of the biopharmaceutical industry and media environment
  • Strong business and financial judgment
  • Confident executive presence
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines while maintaining close attention to detail
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate in a matrixed organization
  • Experience managing high-volume communications through medical and legal review
  • Ability to manage crisis communications and provide strategic communications advice
  • Strong project management capabilities with the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines
  • Experience designing and delivering integrated communications programs
  • Background in internal and external communications, including executive communications and issues or crisis management
  • Proficiency across social and digital communications channels
  • Preferred: healthcare or pharmaceutical experience with a global publicly traded company
  • Preferred: product launch experience
  • Preferred: experience supporting R&D or oncology communications
  • Preferred: experience partnering with C-suite and senior executives
  • Preferred: experience managing budgets and public relations agencies
