ASCP Copywriter and Editor Contractor Illinois Remote

Contract copywriter and editor supporting ASCP BOC credentialing communications across web, multimedia, and examination content. The role upholds editorial quality, brand consistency, and communication standards.

Description

  • Create and enhance communications supporting ASCP BOC operations and its constituents.
  • Develop, edit, and manage content for the ASCP BOC website, social channels, email, newsletters, and related materials.
  • Own standards for written, visual, and multimedia communications.
  • Perform editorial reviews and quality checks for internal and external communications.
  • Proofread credentialing examination questions for grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency, and formatting.
  • Use AP Style, the AMA Manual of Style, brand guidelines, organizational terminology, and messaging frameworks.
  • Work with the Executive Director and leadership team to sustain a consistent organizational voice.
  • Coordinate communications with Credentialing Services, Examination Excellence, and Operations teams.
  • Create editorial workflows, review procedures, and quality-control practices.
  • Edit communications for clarity, tone, accessibility, inclusivity, brand consistency, and audience fit.
  • Maintain and refine style guides, templates, editorial resources, and content-governance documentation.
  • Counsel the team on communication methods, audience engagement, message framing, and content creation.
  • Guide the editorial treatment of visual, video, multimedia, and digital materials.
  • Manage asset libraries, communication templates, presentation repositories, and content-management resources.
  • Periodically audit communications, digital platforms, shared resources, and stakeholder materials.
  • Train, coach, and advise colleagues on editorial standards and communication best practices.
  • Identify and propose improvements to communication processes, standards, templates, and governance.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Accurate grammar and vocabulary in both spoken and written communication.
  • Effective time-management and organizational capabilities.
  • Careful attention to detail with strong analytical judgment.
  • Ability to recognize issues, evaluate options, seek peer input, and implement solutions.
  • Capacity to work independently and contribute effectively as part of a team.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability.
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with safe and ethical uses of AI tools.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience or education in medical laboratory science, pathology, laboratory medicine, healthcare, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Proven ability to review and edit examination questions in laboratory medicine, pathology, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience using communication and de-escalation techniques when addressing constituent questions and concerns preferred.
  • ASCP BOC credential holders are strongly encouraged to apply.
