Staff Accountant – South Africa (Remote)

Manage South African payroll, VAT, reconciliations, and monthly reporting for small-business clients. Document accounting decisions and develop AI-assisted workflows for an evolving accounting system.

Descriere

  • Manage the monthly accounting cycle for a simulated portfolio of small, owner-managed clients
  • Review payroll instructions, run payroll, and verify tax payment deadlines
  • Prepare EMP201 returns for PAYE, SDL, and UIF, reconcile them to payroll, and arrange payment
  • Review monthly client packs to confirm all required records are included and cover the correct period
  • Capture and classify bank and card transactions
  • Post journals for stock, depreciation, payroll, creditors, and debtors
  • Reconcile bank and card accounts and maintain loan and owner loan schedules
  • Prepare monthly management reports covering the income statement, balance sheet, gross profit analysis, and commentary
  • Complete VAT calculations and VAT201 returns every second month and arrange payment
  • Resolve AI partner review notes, save approved files, and complete month-end close procedures
  • Investigate inconsistencies and outdated or revised content in source files
  • Organize documents according to their applicable accounting period
  • Request missing or unclear records from simulated client managers and bookkeepers
  • Flag clients exceeding the R2.3m VAT registration threshold when they are not registered
  • Record accounting procedures, decisions, and judgments as training data for an AI model
  • Create and improve detailed, step-by-step accounting workflows for AI use
  • Compare AI-generated work with completed accounting records, identify errors, and support corrections
  • Use AI models to capture and classify transactions, draft reports, and review accounting work
  • Complete the application process, including prequalification questions, a video introduction, a potential role-specific assessment, interviews, and background or reference checks

Cerințe

  • BCom in Accounting, National Diploma in Accounting, or an equivalent qualification
  • Up to two years of experience in an accounting practice or finance team, including completed articles or an in-progress learnership
  • Practical month-end accounting experience, including transaction capture, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and management reporting
  • Working knowledge of South African VAT, PAYE, SDL, UIF, EMP201, and VAT201 returns
  • Proficiency in double-entry bookkeeping, journal posting, and resolving bank reconciliation issues
  • Strong Excel capability, including lookups, pivot tables, and cleaning irregular CSV files
  • High attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Clear and courteous written English for client requests and review responses
  • Genuine interest in AI and in breaking accounting tasks into clear, teachable steps
  • Comfort working with AI models and evaluating or challenging their output
  • Experience with Eureka, Sage, Xero, or a comparable accounting system is advantageous
  • Experience with Sage Pastel Payroll, Sage VIP, or SimplePay is advantageous
  • SARS eFiling experience is advantageous
  • Trainee registration with SAIPA or SAICA, or progress toward registration, is advantageous
  • Exposure to small-business clients that hold stock is advantageous
  • An updated resume is required for the application
  • A one- to two-minute Loom video is required; only applicants who submit one advance to the next stage
