Senior Systems Engineer, Virtual Infrastructure

Aprašymas

  • Run and enhance KubeVirt and Rancher Harvester infrastructure for FactSet’s internal developer platform.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain vSphere environments across data centers, offices, global points of presence, and remote client sites.
  • Oversee virtual machine lifecycles on traditional and Kubernetes-based platforms, including live migration, capacity planning, and cluster upkeep.
  • Work with platform and application teams to establish and deliver virtualization capabilities for their workloads.
  • Monitor and resolve performance and reliability problems across vSphere, KubeVirt, and Harvester.
  • Build and maintain distributed storage for virtual machines and containers, including VSAN and Longhorn systems.
  • Automate infrastructure lifecycle tasks with PowerShell, PowerCLI, Terraform, ArgoCD, Flux, and related GitOps tools.
  • Use AI tools to speed up automation work, strengthen runbooks, and improve incident response.
  • Document operational procedures to support efficient, reliable service.
  • Plan and deliver capacity growth for both legacy and cloud-native virtualization platforms.
  • Take part in a scheduled 24/7 on-call rotation.

Reikalavimai

  • Bring at least five years of experience administering VMware vSphere and ESXi.
  • Understand Kubernetes fundamentals and cluster operations, or be strongly motivated to build that expertise.
  • Have experience scripting and automating with PowerShell and PowerCLI.
  • Apply strong technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Manage concurrent projects and set priorities effectively.
  • Know Kubernetes fundamentals, including CRDs, operators, RBAC, networking, persistent volumes, and cluster lifecycle management.
  • Administer VMware vCenter and vSphere/ESXi virtual infrastructure for mixed Windows and Linux guest systems.
  • Have worked with KubeVirt or comparable virtual machine solutions on Kubernetes, such as libvirt, KVM, or QEMU.
  • Be familiar with hyperconverged infrastructure, especially Rancher Harvester.
  • Understand distributed storage systems such as Longhorn or Ceph, including replication, snapshots, and recovery.
  • Know advanced Kubernetes networking, including CNI plugins, Multus CNI for multi-network VM configurations, and network policies.
  • Have experience with infrastructure as code and GitOps workflows using tools such as Terraform, ArgoCD, or Flux.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or have equivalent experience.
  • Understand AWS or Google Cloud services and hybrid infrastructure patterns.
  • Have experience with container platforms and runtimes such as containerd and Docker.
  • Be familiar with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, and log aggregation platforms.
  • Understand TCP/IP, DNS, LAN/WAN, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • Have experience with non-vSphere hypervisors such as KVM or Xen outside KubeVirt environments.
