Product Development Engineer III – Catheter Prototyping | Heraeus | Fridley, MN

Develop and test catheter prototypes for Heraeus Medevio in an onsite Fridley, Minnesota role. Lead design refinement, verification, and cross-functional medical device development.

Aprašymas

  • Drive hands-on catheter prototype development from initial concept through evaluation
  • Convert customer input, user needs, and project goals into measurable engineering and prototype requirements
  • Develop, model, and assess catheter concepts across components, subassemblies, and complete devices
  • Maintain 3D CAD models, 2D engineering drawings, specifications, and prototype build records
  • Assess materials, components, joining techniques, and manufacturing methods for prototype applications
  • Construct or adapt prototypes with catheter-development methods, tooling, fixtures, and laboratory equipment
  • Create and perform prototype test methods using appropriate bench setups
  • Interpret prototype and test results to identify failure modes and inform design choices
  • Contribute to design verification and risk management through verification plans, test protocols and reports, risk identification, and critical-to-quality definition
  • Coordinate technical delivery for development programs, including schedules, budgets, prototype builds, plans, and deliverables
  • Work with customers, technicians, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to address technical and build issues
  • Guide decisions on concepts, prototyping strategies, suppliers, and key design characteristics
  • Present technical findings, risks, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders
  • Offer technical direction and mentorship to early-career engineers

Reikalavimai

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred; comparable postsecondary education, training, and experience may be accepted instead
  • At least five years of relevant engineering experience is required; graduate education may replace one year of experience and a doctorate may replace three years
  • Proven background designing and developing catheter-based medical devices or catheter components
  • Practical experience building, modifying, troubleshooting, and evaluating catheter prototypes
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling, production-quality 2D engineering drawings, and engineering records
  • Experience creating or performing bench tests and applying prototype and test data to design decisions
  • Working knowledge of design controls and product development in a regulated quality system
  • Strong complex-problem-solving, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience with catheter materials, components, and manufacturing processes such as polymer tubing, wire, braid, coils, bonding, thermal forming, molding, extrusion, marker integration, shafts, tips, hubs, balloons, or steering and deflection features is preferred
  • Experience using laboratory prototyping tools, fixtures, benchtop test equipment, measurement systems, failure analysis, and root-cause investigation is preferred
  • Experience with engineering analysis techniques and tools including design of experiments, statistical analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and Minitab is preferred
  • Experience with design verification, design transfer, manufacturing scale-up, supplier development, or mentoring technical personnel is preferred
  • Ability to travel between the Fridley and White Bear Lake locations when project work requires it
