Principal Accounting and Controllership Specialist - RTX Hybrid
RTX is hiring a principal accounting specialist to support general accounting, accounts payable, SOX 404 controls, audits, reporting, and controllership improvements. This full-time hybrid position serves candidates within commuting distance of Cedar Rapids, Richardson, or Farmington.

- Manage daily, monthly, and quarterly general accounting work, including journal entries, reconciliations, variance reviews, and supporting records.
- Reconcile accounts payable activity, record accruals, and resolve exceptions.
- Contribute to financial close activities in line with established calendars.
- Review general ledger balances to improve accuracy, simplify workflows, and reduce financial exposure.
- Work cross-functionally with Accounts Payable, Procurement, Cash Accounting, and FP&A.
- Investigate accounting issues, correct discrepancies, and help implement process improvements.
- Uphold internal control requirements and contribute to SOX 404 testing, documentation, remediation, and monitoring.
- Compile materials for and respond to internal and external audit requests.
- Support projects involving process standardization, automation, and accounting workflow improvements.
- Spot controllership weaknesses and propose practical corrective actions.
- Produce financial reports and deliver monthly flux analysis plus quarterly explanations for SJE Memo and TBR.
- Respond to ad hoc accounting analyses and special controllership assignments.
- Provide rotating coverage for ES group mailboxes and process journal entries, cost transfers, and accounting questions.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline plus five years of relevant experience, or an advanced related degree with at least three years of experience.
- Experience using SAP, BlackLine, or comparable accounting systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Residence within commuting distance of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Richardson, Texas; or Farmington, Connecticut.
- Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities are preferred.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills are preferred.
- Careful attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance are preferred.
